Be honest please.

Is it supposed to be a horse?  Is it ribbons?  That is pretty but why didn't you draw the whole horse?  These are all remarks my family said when I, extremely excitedly showed them my pretty much useless and way too time consuming art work.  Then I explained that it is two S's which stands for Steady Smiler, you know my horse??  I had this inspiration to come up with this logo for no other reason but my vanity I guess.  I had visions of a custom painted saddle pad for horse shows and a window decal for my truck.  Silly maybe but I was excited about it either way but when they couldn't even tell what is was I got a little disheartened.  Two S's and a horse jumping 'eventing'.  Don't be afraid to give your honest opinion is it just too vague of a drawing to really see what it is?

  1. I can tell what it is, but then I am used to looking at farm logos. I think it's kind of cool.

  3. I like it, but I was initially confused what the SS stood for. I'm literally sitting at my work computer trying to sound it out "sssseventing" "no".

Haha, that aside, I think it's pretty cool. You could have Kate paint it for you!! (http://lucysquest.blogspot.com/ if you don't already follow her)

  4. Great Idea! Here's what I'd do: use circles as the basis for your S's. Two perfectly stacked circles (the perfect figure 8) in pencil will guide you. Then you can get the spacing for the second S just right - I'd be tempted to stack the second S along the same vertical axis - same figure 8 just slightly lower than the first. It makes a cool swirl pattern. Then you can style the tops of the S's with the horse head and hooves. I wish there was a better way to describe what I just doodled . . .

  5. I think it looks great. I wouldn't worry about people not knowing what it was. You do and it makes you happy.

  6. See SB but you could tell they were S's! That is what I was concerned about. I know people won't know what the S's stand for but I would like you to be able to tell what they are.

Kerri LOL you would laugh at how long it took me to come up with this. I am alot of things but artistic is definitely NOT one of them. I do understand what you are saying and I tried it but my problem is that then eventing is not put in the place of where the 'jump' should be. That is why I tried to kind of have the s's at an angle. But if you have artistic abilities then I would love to see what you drew. Do what I did take a picture of your drawing then email it to me. I would greatly appreciate someones help that has advanced passed kindergarten art capabilities.

  7. I did see the "s"-es and the horse head (I even knew what they stood for) but I didn't see the jumping until you pointed out -- then I thought that was a clever touch.

  8. I am the most un-artistic person around...and I saw it! Love it - totally original and never mind what your family thinks :)

  9. Your family - they are not horse crazed fanatics are they?

I saw the picture and thought hay that's cool without ever reading the article. You could even use the two S's as a brand if you ever wanted to that route =)

  10. I saw it immediately. Though I thought it was for "Slow and Steady". But it works both ways. I really like how the S es make a full front end of a horse, though I will admit I didn't realize it was jumping the eventing sign. Try adding arrows on either side of "eventing" (like the red and white flags, though I don't think they need to be in colour for it to help make their point). I don't expect non-horse people to understand horsey logos. I have post-it notes lined up in my cubical drawing out a second level dressage test, and people ask if it's code, or a word. I laugh every time. Oh well.

  11. Look at that cool logo!!
You're awesome, and I knew right away it was SS.
It's okay, my husband is usually my worst critic! Now you know where tour true audience is for this type of acknowledgement!

I too doodle, imagine and draw all the time.
What about an slightly offset S that was his head for one ( like you have) and the other is his forelegs under that- over the eventer? I can see it...

  12. I actually did take a phone photo of my doodle, but can't find an email address to send it to. So here's a photo bucket link:

Copy and paste into browser. It's a terrible photo of the doodle, but it's easier than trying to describe. I didn't even factor in the 'eventing' part.
